OK then , let's talk about third generation ,


Third Generation :-

Time period of third generation was 1965 to 1971.
computers of third generation was based on IC CHIP .
IC CHIP derived from INTEGRATED CHIP  also called microchip , chip , IC chip ,
collection of thousands or millions of  Repositors , Transistors ,Diodes.

Two scientists named ROBERT NOYCE and JACK KILBY invented IC CHIP  IN 1958 -  1959.

Programming languages like BASIC , PASCAL were introduced in this time period of third generation .

Computers of third generation support High Level languages .

MOUSE and KEYBOARD were used  as INPUT DEVICES , in place of punch cards .


SOME names of computers that built or introduced in third gen :- 

1. PDP   8
2. PDP   11
3. IBM   360
4. IBM   370
5. ICL   2900
6. HONEYWELL   6000 
7. TDC   316

Advantages :-

1. Generate lesser Heat than computers of first gen and second gen.
2. Consume less Electricity.
3. support of high level languages.
4. Fasted than first and second gen .
5. Memory capacity increased.
6. Mouse and keyboard were used as INPUT DEVICES.
7. COMPUTERS of third generation gave results in nanoseconds, faster than previous two generations.
8. More reliable.

Dis-Advantages :-

1. Required high maintenance of IC CHIP .
2. COOLING system was required for cooling down the whole system.
